Meet the Director

Since 2001 our Music Director and Conductor, Scott Walter, has provided a unique musical sense bringing orchestral musicians of all levels, ranging from amateur to professional, together to share in their love of music and advance their skills through continued music education.

Scott began playing trumpet professionally at age 15 and music has been an ongoing part of his life since. In addition to conducting, he also enjoys composing and jazz improvisation.

He grew up in Norfolk Virginia, played All State while attending Granby High, and majored in Music Composition at East Texas State University.  He has played with numerous artists spanning a wide range of styles while living in Norfolk, Dallas, and New York before moving to his current home in Montvale, Virginia.

In addition to orchestral, his musical diversity and extensive experience include theater, r&b, big band and small combo jazz, latin, funk, dixieland, contemporary, and studio recording.

Conductor Walter’s approach has helped the BCO develop its own unique sound and feel…where every person’s part and instrument matters.

Rehearsals and performances focus on:

  • The value of teamwork in sectional and group ensemble playing
  • Stimulating imagination and inventiveness through expression and creativity
  • The importance of continued education and regular practice to develop higher skills

This program provides an invaluable experience for Bedford, Lynchburg, Roanoke, and New River Valley area musicians to experience an education based rehearsal orchestra.

“The sound of the orchestra is one of the most magnificent
musical sounds that has ever existed.”
